BTW, did you know that the .22 is the favored weapon of hitmen?
Apparently when the victim is a known person of sleazy repute, and
it
looks like a hit, if the bullet is a .22, the police tend to
clinch
the
event as a hit.

The Israelis use a bull barrel Ruger 10-22 for certain street
fighting
situations.

But anyway, it's still a dumb choice of ammo for home protection.
The
first shot should always go to the torso, unless you're in a rare
situation where you have a perfect head shot. A .22 round is not
going
to
put someone down fast. That is the goal, the ONLY goal, in a home
defense
situation.

Then you'd better get a 12 gauge shotgun.
The US Army changed from .38 special to .45 ACP when the Moros in
the
Philippines could not be stopped with .38s. But well-placed, a
.22
will do the job.
Just dig up Spide Sabich and ask his opinion...he took one in the
chest
and said goodbye.

Mack, I'm the last person to make any general assumptions based on old
age,
especially since I work for a guy who's 87, but sharper than people
half
his
age. In this case, though, I think the retired Green Beret is a bit
disconnected from reality, **IF** a .22 was really his choice for home
defense. The only other explanation is that the .22 is all he had
handy
at
the moment.

There's no way in hell a Green Beret would consider all the possible
handgun
options and say "Yep - .22 is the one for me.", unless he had a few
loose
screws.

.22 will do the job in 99 percent of the time and it won't mess up your
living room. Think of the cleanup if you used something bigger.

How do you define "do the job"?

I have a Browning Buck Mark . Why don't you come over some night late
and break into my house to find out, it's only a .22. I promise I won't
use any of my more powerful tools.

How do you define "do the job"?

Use your big boy words.
