WASHINGTON, July 30 (Xinhua) -- In a move viewed as a public censure to Japan, the U.S. House of
Representatives on Monday unanimously passed a bill to demand Japan's
apology on the issue of "comfort women."
The resolution, passed the full House by a voice vote without objection,
urged the Japanese government to acknowledge formally and accept
responsibility for the sexual exploitation of "comfort women" by the
Japanese military during World War II.
"Today, the House will send a message to the government of Japan that it
should deliver an official, unequivocal, unambiguous apology for the
indignity the comfort women suffered," said Rep. Mike Honda, (D-Calif.),
an American of Japanese descent who pushed the bill in the House.
The Japanese thought on this:

Japan Warns U.S. House Against Resolution on WWII Sex Slaves

Japan has warned leaders of the House of Representatives that serious,
long-term damage to Japanese-U.S. relations is likely if the House passes
a resolution demanding an official apology from Japan for its wartime
policy of forcing women to become sex slaves for Japanese soldiers.
In an unusually blunt letter sent to five House leaders, including Speaker
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Japanese Ambassador Ryozo Kato said passage of
the resolution "will almost certainly have lasting and harmful effects on
the deep friendship, close trust and wide-ranging cooperation our two
nations now enjoy."

Japan has apologized over the matter before, including in 1993.
And from the Japanese Government:

"The Prime Minister went to America in April and explained his thinking on
this problem again," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki told
reporters. "It is unfortunate that the U.S. House of Representatives
nonetheless passed this resolution. Our government has dealt sincerely
with the problem of the comfort women."

So, after a number of apologies, and being *TOLD* by the Japanese not to
stick their noses into it, why the *HELL* is Congress wating time on this
bull***? There are plenty of other countries in the world that have
passed their own resolutions on what the US should be doing, and those
have been ignored. And, there are also *plenty* of issues the world thinks
the US should apologize for, the best example I can think of is installing
the Shah of Iran in the 1950's.
Who appointed our Congress as the Moral Watchdog for the world, esp
concerning issues that are almost 70 years old?
It is clear that this Congress has lost it's grip on reality, and is
spending far too much time on touchy-feely, Warm Fuzzies Bull***.
But, I suppose focusing on stuff like this keeps them from doing any
*real* damage...
