It is rather difficult to put food on the family.
Nothing wrong with this statement.
Just as there's nothing wrong with "Rarely is the question
asked,
'Is
our children learning?'"
Two months into his first term he said, "You can fool some of
the
people all the time, and those are the ones you want to
concentrate
on." Yeah, like the 30% of Americans who are still stupid
enough
to
support him.
"This process has been drug out a long time," Bush added. "It's
political."
Drug out. Sure.
That is past tense for drag....in Texas lingo....LOL
These libbies have no feeling for humor.
Your president did not mean his comment to be humorous.
How do you know that to be a fact?
Context gives a huge hint.
BTW, you New Yorkers talk funny too.
Sometimes I wonder what in hell did he say.
New Yorker? NYS or NYC? Upstate: the "flat a" (from CNY, on west) is as
difficult as it gets if the person's a native NY-er (vs. having accented
English, if they immigrated after age ~12.) The only semi-problem I've ever
noticed in the 30+ years I've lived up here is that sometimes the word "pal"
= "pale", re: pronunciation. That's as tricky as it gets. NYC - Brooklyn
or Queens: you mean you can't understand a person if they speak in Archie
Bunker mode?
I know this for a fact, based on the context in which he said it. But,
that
doesn't matter. When he's commenting on serious matters of government,
humor
is inappropriate.
Like I said, you New Yorkers talk funny, almost another language as per
GWB and the South, but that's ok. You see we in the hinterland are more
tolerant of other dialects. You should become more worldly
Saying this to a person who lives on the east coast, & esp. one who lives
nr. NYC - where there has historically been a huge & varied immigrant
population, along with their attendent languages/dialects, is ridiculous. I
live upstate - not near a port city, yet we have substantial populations of
Russians, Bosnians, various Middle Easterners, Poles... many of whom are
recently or newly arrived, still speak their native languages, & are in the
process of learning English.
