natural gas came from?

Since it came from the atmosphere to start with, we're just
restoring
the earth's natural carbon balance when we burn hydrocarbon fuels.

Maybe, maybe not. Some people don't believe petroleum is actually
derived from decayed organic material (I do agree coal is derived from
plants). But even if it is - do you really want to go back to the
Jurassic age?
