I know, but unlike those few others, I think Art tended to exaggerate
the
extent to which his Avalon was crap. From what I gathered from his
posts,
they seemed to be mostly fit and finish issues. And perhaps his dealer

just incompetent.
Except what you haven't seemed to notice is that most of the owners here
like Scott who are defending Toyota quality own old Toyotas mostly made
in
Japan.
Once again, you are full of ***. My folks and my brother own recent
Corollas that were made in North America, and they have been very
reliable,
typical of Toyota.
Again, even if Toyota's quality has taken a bit of a dip, their long-term
reliability still beats the big 3.
You really don't have a clue about what we are discussing. Quality isn't
just reliablity. My criticisms regarding my 2001 Avalon were about poorly
implemented features, not reliability. For example, the auto climate
control was a joke (it even says it might not work right in the owner's
manual), the car stretched and shrunk perceptibly when you hit the gas and
brake respectively (technician told me that it was caused by lag in dynamic
engine mount. Also some were recalled because of inadequate welding of
subframe which held the engine.... mine wasn't but I bet the subframe was
inadequate), the doors relocked themselves after 30 seconds if you didn't
open a door in time (great when putting something in the trunk... by the
time the trunk was loaded the car had locked itself up again), the seatbelt
rewind springs were inadequate, the net in the trunk was put in a utterly
useless position, once every 2 months or so the VSC/traction lights would
lite up indicating a problem but the issue could not be diagnosed, sometimes
the brake pedal dropped as you slowed to a stop making the car speed up
again..... it was apparently due to engine speed changes when the ac was on
under some exact magical conditions, squeaks and click from the dash were
constant and in cold weather the pastic cowl trim slapped the bottom of the
windshield unless you siliconed it in place. There were lots more signs of
poor quality. I got rid of it in December with just 22k miles on it. It
was so annoying we hardly drove it.
