You missed the point, one does not need to spend 20% or 30% more to drive
home a Toyota to get a reliable vehicle. There are plenty of vehicles of
many brands on the market that are reliable that cost a lot less to drive
home. If you actually think that a Toyota 20% or 30% more reliable than
other brands you are if for a rude awaking. Given your belief that it will
run longer, before it brakes down, will be off set by the much higher cost
of repair for which Toyotas are noted. Let say for the sake of argument
that a Lexus power steering pump will last twice as long as the pump in a
Cadillac in 200K miles. The PS pump for a Lexus cost around $1,500, the
pump for a Cadillac cost around $500. The average new car buyer in the US
replaces his vehicle, with another new vehicle, in three to four years. Any
car will run for three or four years, even given marginal maintenance.
