The sensor is located in the left side air ducting that directs air onto the front brake assembly.
The sensor should be more reliable than what you expereinced, my guess is that it has come unplugged or the wires are otherwise damaged.

The OBC on my '99 E46 is now reading a constant -40oF. Anyone know if there is an easy fix for the sensor or (alternatively) what kind of $$ I'm looking at to have the dealer fix the problem?
