You didn't say which car...or even which part of the mechanism...which makes it hard to look up in the TIS...but typically, what look like rivets are actually pressed-in bolts, with the nuts that might be placed on either the doorskin side or (more typically in my experience) on the interior side. This goes for both the motor assembly and regulator.

A service manual or TIS would doubtless show you how to remove and reinstall them.

Do NOT forget to disconnect the battery (and on some cars then wait at least 20 minutes) before removing the airbag, if so equipped.
