I think, not sure, but I *think* my cousin actually fell for one of
those lottery scams. I was telling her how stupid someone would have to
be to fall those emails. She got quiet and said, "Everybody makes
mistakes." I just shut my mouth and didn't say another word.

I have been getting some kind stupid stuff about an unpaid ticket in New
York. I've never been to New York. Plus ... there are several other
email address listed with copies having been sent to them. They must
give a lot of tickets in New York. Haha!
I've received those too. I actually downloaded one of them to pick the
executable apart and run it through various malware scanners just to
see what they are about. It's quite interesting, actually.
So ... what happens? Can you tell where they came from?
Most of the time they are relayed through at least 4 (or more)
compromised SMTP servers. So it's really a nightmare to track down.
The X-Originating-IP header (in the Yahoo headers) isn't always the
correct starting point.

In fact, I just got one a little while ago from "USPS Inc" saying my
mail was undeliverable. :/ never thought a government agency would
incorporate themselves. Ingratiate maybe.. Irritate, definitely. :)
I found two of those in my SPAM box yesterday. I just delete them.

Don't you just hate when the mail is undeliverable and the post office
*cough* notifies *cough* you about the problem? I mean, how'd they
know to send you email that there was an issue? Is Big Brother really
watching?

/me puts on his tin foil pointy hat

You can never be TOO careful these days.
LMAO

--> (serious statement) I just saw something this evening in another
group (one I recently removed myself from) that proves your point.
Seriously. Not Big Brother, but a diabolical jerk who loves to cause
problems for fellow posters. This stunt was sinister (in my book). So
... it's true ... you can't be too careful. He found out I've been
posting to this group and he may show up here. So I'm planning to get
out of Usenet ... period. Take down all of the web pages I have online
and disappear into the anonymity of the masses.

We get that on occasion here too. "Trolls" just looking to rile people
up because they have nothing better to do.

The typical response is to not feed them. Sometimes that's not always
easy to do.. especially when they start x posting to other groups.

That's why I and the other regs stopped contributing here. This group
and AHM used to be one of the two greatest resources of information
when it came to security (insecurity) and sharing ideas/information on
the Internet. Now, it's pretty much a smoking crater.

Although I'm trying as much as possible to correct some of the
problems, I don't think 2600 or AHM will ever be the same as it was.

Let's just say if this person does come in here starting trouble with
you, it'll be the biggest mistake they ever made.

This is a fun diversion, especially for folks who are homebound and only
have this medium to communicate with the outside world, but I'm not
there yet. I've met some great people via news groups and I've enjoyed
talking to them, but there are those others who aren't so nice. I am
going to miss the ones I like a lot.

I know what you mean. I'm grateful for social networking sites though
because really, it's brought me a lot closer to the people I've known
for years on Usenet. I look at them like family and have a much
greater respect for them than ever.

I hope your life improves and your health. You seem to have a good
attitude ... able to keep laughing in spite of your circumstances.

Why thank you. That really means a lot to me. Especially in the
troubling times I'm going through right now. Fortunately all of that
is about to change for the better.

I try to keep a good attitude despite what I'm dealing with. However I
must admit I have my days where I just want to throw in the towel. I
just try not to show it as much, if at all. My online family has
helped me tremendously in ways they can't even possibly begin to
imagine. I just hope that one day I can return the favor.

It's been fun. Always remember .... procrastination is the best way to
get things done .... someday. [g]<-- a real big grin

Wait! I thought it was the *only* way to get things done? Or did
someone procrastinate about sending me that all important email?

LMAO

Perhaps Baby Mathew will return and do the Hatter Dance for everyone's entertainment? Me and my brother had a great deal of fun messing with
him. ^_^
