-0600 it was announced to all in a public briefing, Betty
<howdy@xxxxx'all> made the following declaration and shocked the world
when the following was announced:
I also have a dead Gateway laptop (32 bit Vista) that crashed at the age of 2. I loved that machine! I'm seriously considering having it fixed, if that's possible.
What kind of problems are you having with it, exactly?
The Gateway will not boot to Windows. It will go to the BIOS, but that's it. I took it to Best Buy right after the crash. The tech there said he thought it was the mother board and that it would be around $300 to fix it. At the time that didn't sound like such a good deal, but ...
It will allow you to go into the CMOS setup.. Does the BIOS recognize
the HDD(s) in the system? IOW, does it tell you that there is a drive
attached?
Do not feel obligated to answer any of my questions. I am able to jump in the lake, or take a flying leap ... just like anyone else.
Here are photos of each screen, plus what is visible with the bottom cover removed. Don't laugh! I know that last picture is not very clear, but I didn't know that until I had replaced the cover and I wasn't going to start over. I'm sure there is no way in BLEEP to tell a single thing from seeing the picture. Don't laugh or I'll shoot a water baboon in your direction!

When the computer tries to finish booting (go to Windows) the HD sounds like it's going to go, but then it stops. The DVD drive sounds normal so I assume it's working.
I think it is probably the mother board, but I don't know. I wouldn't attempt to replace it myself without supervision. I might be able to figure out how to do it, but not without a few mistakes along the way and I might just mess it up more than it is now.
I thought that HDs always give some kind of warning (an uncommon beep or garbage on the screen) when they're are going bad?
[...]
Is there anything it could be other than the MB or HD? (Ballpark opinion/estimate to glitch) Is it possible to repair components on the board if they become damaged? Would the jack where the power supply plugs in have a bearing on the operation even if the battery is charged and in place?
Don't laugh!! <grinning timidly!!>
