I could run MotherBoard Monitor or something to look at CPU temps if you

I have a few year old computer (clone, I built with VIA chipset) that
has
suddenly started to completely freeze.
The image stays on the screen but the computer is completely frozen.
CTRL
ALT DEL does nothing and even a reset via the reset button just brings
up
a
black screen (no BIOS text, no beeps, nothing).
If I power down completely Windows will boot and the system works for a
while (5 min to a hour tops) and then freezes again.
The computer has a removable drive and I have tried it with several
different boot drives. They all freeze so I know it is not a software
problem. I actually have 5 drives that I use for different tasks which
is
one of the reasons I would rather repair this few year old computer
rather
than getting a new one (the thought of installing & configuring 5 OS's
...).
I opened the PC and reseated all the cards & RAM. Cleaned all the fans
and
heat sinks.
Have tried a different video card and removed all but one stick of RAM.
Pretty much the only components I have not eliminated is the power
supply,
motherboard and CPU.
Does this sound like a PS issue to anyone?
Also 3 of the larger caps on the motherboard near the CPU have the
slightest
of buldges (very little, but they are not flat like the others). My
guess
is
that these 3 caps are what is causing the problem, but I would like to
hear
from the experts.
If you guys think it is the caps Im pretty good with a soldering iron.
Is
this something that is replaceable? Do these traces usually go all the
way
through the board. I dont want to remove everything yet, will do this
as
a
last resort especially if it sounds like the problem is the caps.
My guess is the computer is overheating.
Does the computer work longer if it's left off longer?
after it has been used for a while.
I think when I stress the CPU (by doing audio transcoding etc) it
appears
to frreze faster then if I'm just browsing folders.
I tried it with the cover open and closed and I did install 3 fans
originally since it was going to be in a desk cabinet. All fans are
working. I also have a super-duper CPU fan with Artic silver heat
compound.
think it would help
Just a few "typical" questions..
What OS is installed on the machine? When did this problem begin to
occur? What (if anything) has happened or changed to the PC recently
(i.e. hardware upgrade, software upgrade/update, power surge, power
spike, dropped PC/HDD, exposure to moisture, extreme heat, extreme
cold?) When removing the HDD, are you grounded with an anti-static
strap?
What are the basic specs of the system? IOW, RAM (both type and speed;
Ex: PC2700 300 MHz DDR SDRAM), CPU, motherboard manufacturer/model.
What types of anti-malware software is installed? Ex: Spybot Search &
Destroy, Norton AV.. Have these been updated recently? Have they been
ran recently to check for problems or threats? Are you the sole user
of the PC or do others have access? Is this a dual-boot setup?
I think that's about all the questions I have at present.

3 of the OSs are XP Pro, 1 Win7 Pro and one 2K3 Server.
I know for sure it is not a software/OS problem as I have the problem on ALL
of the drives.
The Win 2K3 server drive hasnt even been used in 6 months.
Nothing has happened to hardware recently and nothing new has been
installed.
The HD are completely enclosed in a plastic tray.
Motherboard is AAZA P4X2-AV, with Via chipset. Pentium 2GHZ, DDR RAM
I am the sole user. Not dual boot, but multi HD & OS (only one drive in
system at a time)
