I'm not sure which one I should change or if I even should change
anything in the Power Management screen.

My next course of action will be to see if I can locate an update to
the BIOS.

Oddly, the computer was on all day yesterday from about noon until I
just restarted it a few minutes ago to enter the CMOS Setup screen.
The comp hasn't decided to shut itself down yet. Hmmmm...

Dee, dee, dee! Gee, I wonder how *HOT* it was. *shakes head*

And of course he completely misses the heat/fan management section in
the BIOS, instead fumbling around in the power management setup which
has *** all to do with his problem. LOL


He said in the OP that when it beeped/shut down there was a message
about standby mode, part of the power management.

While I agree he should be checking that the cpu fan is actually doing
something, and it never hurts to have a look at the settings for it in
the bios (if any).

I have yet to see a machine that when it overheats will go into any
power saving type mode, they just power down, not giving a damn about
saving your work or anything else.

Again, depends on the BIOS settings, on most BIOS setups you can
choose to either have it shut down or go into stand by (or not do
anything). I ~think~ by default most BIOS setups will shut down
rather than go into stand by, but then that's only taking into account
the limited number of BIOS setups I've seen, and it's assuming that
the box peecee manufacturer hasn't altered the defaults. Most
***-box manufacturers alter the BIOS defaults, some even using their
own custom BIOS.
