Not commenting on that post, but I haven't seen you around much lately, you been chasing storms? If so, South Eastern Kentucky has been the place to be lately. Not a lot of tornadoes, but the potential is definitely there. That weather radio you advised me to get has gone off with warnings a couple of times. It went off yesterday with flood warnings. Where I am, I'm not in any flood danger, but the rain REALLY came down last night, if I was in a low lying area, it could have saved my life. I've been quite busy lately in the new module that I'm in right now.
This class is very homework intense. Not only are we studying network
security, but we have had a lot of assignments on customer server and
the help desk (call center). To me the CS is too simple and rather
boring at the same time.

As I tell people in my class "If you don't know how to deal with
customers then CST (Computer Support Technician) isn't for you." Since
I've been doing computer repair over the past 9 years I have developed
a knack when it comes to talking with customers. I do my best to
reassure them in every aspect of their computer/data and treat each
one as a friend by the conversations. I don't talk "techy" with them
and help them to better understand their computers. Every customer
that I've ever dealt with, both young and old, seem very comfortable
when talking to me about their computer issues.

The thing that I hate most though about this mod is that I have no
intentions now or in the future to work as a help desk tech or in a
call center. That's not for me. I would be much happier working as a
technician. Either in a mom & pop computer store to Best Buy or
Microcenter. I've always enjoyed doing computer repairs ever since I
first started.

As for chasing, I wish.. *sigh* It's been the same for the past 5
years now. All the storms moving in after dark when spotting is more
difficult as well as dangerous. Just once I would like to see a strong
cold front move through by early afternoon during the heating of the
day. I just can't seem to get that lucky. I wish I knew the reasoning
behind why this has been the case year after year. I have my theories
but I have no way to prove or disprove them.. At least not yet.

I'm glad to hear about your weather radio though. I'll bet it's been
interesting to say the least when a severe thunderstorm or tornado
warning is issued. I can't remember if I had asked you about this
previously, but does your weather radio display the alert message on
the screen? I don't live in a flood plane or a flood prone area. So I
have everything flood related blocked on my portable weather radio. I
still get the text messages for them, the alarm won't go off for that
product.

My apologies for not being around as much as I'd like to be. Hopefully
once I graduate in October of this year I'll be able to actually spend
more time at the comp than I have lately. It's great to know that you
and yours are ok though. I have been concerned about you guys when I
see severe weather moving through.

On a side note, if you or anyone else reading this is/are interested
and you have some working knowledge of how to make an RJ45 I found a
great deal at 3Btech.net (out of Indiana) on an RJ45 crimper and
tester combo for only $15.00 with free shipping. Mine just arrived
yesterday and I replaced all the CAT 5 with CAT 5e.

If you're unfamiliar with the order of the wires, it's as follows:

1. White with orange stripe
2. Orange
3. White with green stripe
4. Blue
5. White with blue stripe
6. Green
7. White with brown stripe
8. Brown

The clip (tab or whatever you want to call it) must be facing down. I
guess I learned at least one thing cool in this course. :)

You can really mess with your classmates by substituting
a crossover cable for their patch cord. Me and L were
called out yesterday evening to a large retailer were a
goofball left a real mess. We have to get our cranky old
asses out of bed and in gear to fix that cockup. When you
do this stuff for a living, the silly excreta you come
across every day can make your blood pressure go up. I'll
ask "Why didn't you call us to start with?" "He said he
could do it cheaper, you're not gonna charge too much, are
yo?" "Well, now it's almost twice as much work so what do
you think?" "Uh, what do you mean?" "You see all that crap
up there?" "Uh, yea" "I have to pull all that out because
the cable is ruined. You can't bend Cat5 cable over a sharp
90deg bend like that, it ruins it." "Uh, can't you splice
it" "Sure, there's a way to splice it but now you're asking
me to do three times as much work." "Uh, well, I guess I
should have called you to start with."..... I come across
nonsense like that all the time. Last night, I got up in
a dropped ceiling at the retailer and found cable that had
been pulled hard in an attempt to straighten out the kinks.
Oh, it was ugly.
