One Indian guy I knew, was a fine worker etc. but he didn't consider the Canadian govt. to be *his* govt. and had no qualms about saying so. As far as I'm concerned, there is a serious loyalty issue here. Because he had a vested interest in the govt. failing, he is not motivated to do the best work he can, and certainly was not interested in being efficient etc. In private industry, if you aren't loyal to the company, you end up getting fired. But he had a far more secure job than I did, and I was loyal. This just in to the alt.2600 news room. On Mon, 09 Feb 2009 22:25:02

I don't get out much, but today was a really nice day and I took the bug out. I never really thought about tornadoes at night, and being alerted. I don't know when the last tornado struck here, but it's probably not a bad thing to have just in case, there certainly isn't much to stop one around where I live (semi-rural, I can hear cows from time to time). I definitely would need one that requires zero maintenance though.

My problem is that I tend to neglect those things and when I need them, the batteries are dead. I wonder if they have them with a crank?I know this will be one of many severe weather alerts from me,Here in the outbacks of Indiana we have these weather alert radios i
especially now that you're in Kentucky.
But just an FYI, Wednesday Ohio, Kentucky and states south are under a
slight risk for severe weather on Wednesday according to the Storm
Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Large hail and damaging winds
will be the main severe weather threats, however, a tornado or two can
not be ruled out.

In case you're wondering, your local NWS office is located in Jackson,
KY.
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/jkl/
The other office that's close by is located in Louisville, KY.
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lmk/
Since I'm included in the slight risk area I'll be monitoring the
weather over the next 72 hours. If anything breaks out or I see
something worth letting you know in the data I'll be collecting I'll
post it here. I'm sure you're probably aware, but your county is
Fayette in case you didn't know.

Be alert. The world needs more lerts.
suggest he get one set it up and use it as a back up for tornado
weather.
It warns about severe storms and watches for the most part.
NOAA also has a RSS feed you can subscribe to to get weather alerts as
well.
you also might try to see if wunderground covers your area as well.
They too have rss feeds as well. WE WILL KNOW THE WEATHER WITH OR
WITH OUT PAPERS, TV, AND CNN.
Just had to throw that in :)
TSS
(with weather band) that uses a crank.
*pauses to check*
No, I don't see them there anymore. But here's one that uses Ni-Cad
batteries and has a built in charger.

Personally I like the kind that not only have the alert tone, but also
displays the text of the type of watch, warning or advisory it is.
AFAIK you can only get those at Radio Shack.
As TSS suggested, I would highly recommend a weather radio with alert
and S.A.M.E (Specific Area Message Encoding) feature since you're just
on the outskirts of "tornado alley".
You can program in only the counties that you want to receive alerts
for using FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) codes.
I keep mine on alert 24/7 and it has a battery backup in case of an
outage. Since I'm a spotter and storm chaser I have mine set to warn
on all 21 counties within the central Ohio area.
I'm sure there's got to be a Radio Shack (or what I call "Radio Hack")
in your area. They're normally priced between $25 and $60.
Well worth the cost especially for night time storms when you're
asleep. Unless you're a "heavy sleeper" like I am. You could light a
bomb near my bed and I wouldn't hear it. lol Fortunately it's loud
enough to wake my wife up so she can punch my arm to wake me. :)
I'll take a picture of the two I use. Mind you the desktop one I'll be
taking a picture of had the text display screen broken thanks to my
dumb ass of a brother. The hand held I use also has a text display,
but that one is battery only. :(
One thing to remember about Radio Shack. Their motto is "You have
questions, we have answers!" is a load of horse shit. In reality it's
"You have questions, we have blank stares!"
LMAO
That's no joke either. Most of them are lackeys that aren't willing to
ask "You want fries with that?" You'll see what I mean. :)
A neat trick you can pull though if you get bored. Go into a Radio
Shack and ask them if they have any spell components. Watch the dumb
ass scratch his head on that one. hahahahaha!!!!
Back in the late 70's I worked for Tandy Repair,
the repair division for Radio Shack and the company
was fine until Mr. Charles Tandy died in 1978. After
his death, the corporate management started screwing
over all the store managers who had worked so hard to
build up the company through diligence, hard work and
good customer service. The corporate sphincters went
after the highest paid and part owner managers especially
hard because they could pay some dumbass $14k instead
of $40k to sell product. There were managers getting fired
for any excuse the corporate slime could fabricate.
There were these wonderful guys who had worked their
butts off for years to get their positions and high pay
and they were dumped on. Then there was Affirmative
Action, something else that caused a lot of deterioration
in the quality of the stores. It' a real shame.
