We're still in the process of deciding which distro will work best for
this particular environment.
It seems like it would have been a good idea to figure all this out
BEFORE you made the proposal to switch everything over. Personally if
I was one of yer higher ups I would have NEVER given you the go ahead
without at least SOME kind of plan of action.

Well either way they're idiots if there's no plan of action. Normally,
in a well run company, you would be asked by the higher ups to put
together some kind of report or plan or at the very least an outline
of what the switch over would entail, what it would cost and all the
details. Looking through the thread it looks like you're just NOW
asking yourself questions that SOMEBODY should have asked PRIOR to
making the decision.

Exactly, which is *WHY* they would have asked for SOME kind of report
or plan BEFORE giving it the okay...unless they're a bunch of idiots.
I mean what kind of a an idiot would give the go ahead to a project
that they didn't even know how much it would cost? Not to mention as
far as costs you have to consider your clients, luckily it looks like
he suddenly realized that aspect in another post.
Hopefully he has a
reasonable time period to complete the switch, if not they will find
someone else who can do it.

As a free lancer I experience FAR more of the "real world" than you,
Fuckup. Basically, I'm the guy they call in when the guys like you
screw everything up and they need it fixed in as little time as
possible. Granted I charge them rather incredible sums of money, but
that's what it costs for 24 and 48 hour turn around times.
In fact, I would say that a good 95% of my business is simply fixing
something that someone else screwed up. Given that, it's no surprise
that the majority of my clients are actually production companies like
my own; outsourcing what they can't handle to someone like me.

Basically the company bought a DIY Flash template but then couldn't
figure out how to change things around and most of what they did wound
up all messed up and looking like junk, so then they woke up out of
the delusion that they could do it themselves and realized that they
needed an actual web designer, which is where I came in and fixed
everything for them. They got a really good deal too, since I didn't
charge them as much as I would to make the site from scratch, since
the design was already there it didn't take long to get it fixed up.
Like all my clients they were so pleased with the work and the turn
around time that now they want more stuff and are even thinking about
having create a whole new site for them from scratch (which would be a
good idea).
Hey you're the one running around asking a bunch of numb*** questions
that you should have had the answer to BEFORE you agreed to do the
switch over. Don't get all snitty and indignant at me cause yer
company is run like a three ring circus.
A stock boy at Wal*Mart doesn't have a clue what the IT people at Wal*Mart
