I've got an OSX 10.4.1 vmware session running to test out a new app I'm
writing for my father-in-law. I'm using NetBeans/Java to ensure
compatibility between my Linux box, vista boxes and his Macintosh.

To test it out, I opened up this VM Session. First thing I got was that it
wouldn't run. I checked and Java was set to 1.4.2.

Okay, go to www.java.com and download 1.5 or 1.6 right? Nope. It directs me
to the apple site where I am told to download 1.5 for Tiger 10.4.

Of course, I'm then told that I need at least 1.4.8 and I've got 1.4.1 so
TSOL.

I then try to subsequently download 1.4.2 through 1.4.11. Each time, I'm
told I "don't need this update."

Hello? Shouldn't it be my choice if I want to do this update? Obviously I
need it if I can't get Java running.

WTF kind of company is this anyway?

Why not just use Flash with a PHP/SQL backend? That'll ensure
compatibility. Plus you can do a LOT more with Flash than you can
Java.
