I go out to the living room only to find him upside down and acting
very wierd. I told my wife last night, and sure enough it was around
the time of the quake.

Neither of us could sleep for awhile. So, I guess the bird felt the
quake.

My kitten barely budged, he looked up to see what was making the
creaking sound (which was my monitor shaking) and then promptly went
back to sleep.

No, didn't feel the quake. I was actually busy with other things. So,
is that your first time?
No, we have had many that could be felt, the only one that was
slightly scary was the "hector mine" quake because it went on for so
long and actually moved objects in the house and knocked a picture off
the wall. Ironically, the most intense quake I felt, and the only one
that ever actually (slightly) damaged a structure I was living in was
back in Canada.
Don't remember that one. I guess I don't really pay attention to the
ones except the big ones - Northridge, Whittier Narrows - that actually
do something to my house.
Hector Mine was 10 times the magnitude of Northridge and dwarfed
Whittier Narrows, it was in the top 10 largest quakes to hit North
America in the 20th century. It was in a remote area (29 Palms Military
base) and there was no significant damage or death, but we sure felt it
in Irvine. My cats were plenty freaked by that one and so was I for that
matter.
Oh, is that the one out in the desert where they got this giant crack in
the ground? Maybe I'm thinking of the Landers quake.

Honestly, not having much damage I don't remember them all.

It WAS cool, however, in High School. We had these West German exchange
students over and right in the middle of the month, we had a decent sized
earthquake. They really enjoyed it. That was in '86 or '87, IIRC.

High School in the mid 80's????

You are a young pup aren't you. I'd finished university by then.
;-)
LOL. I said the same thing to him before reading your post. Damned kids these days.
