For example, on many CDs, what is essentially the intro to a song is actually a seperate track of instrumental music. This would be nice not just for intro tracks but for whole sets of songs that perhaps share a common theme or even a whole album.

The only way I can think of would be to `cat` all the files together on the command line for one large mutitrack mp3 but that seems just so damn inelegant...
Why not just make a playlist? I've never done this, but you can have it make a folder so I imagine you can put multiple playlists in the folder and have it play them in succession, but shuffle the tunes within the playlist.
