Re: 200GB won't install as a master drive

On Fri, 09 Mar 2007 18:39:10 -0800, a rock fell the sky, hitting Bitey on
the head, and inspiring the following:

I have Googled, I have pulled out some of my hair, my nerves are
shattered.. Any help out there?

...people still use drive letters?

How quaint.

HAHAHA!!! Reminds of a quote by Tubeguy, ""Hmmmm, a book.....how quaint!"

Heh.

Speaking of drive letters (Bob knows how much I detest Winduhs), due to
Frozzie's advice I downloaded a program to flash the BIOS on that old POS.
..but oh, it could NOT be as easy as that. I discovered the floppy drive
had decided to die in my darkest computer hour. I bought another one
today and will install it later when I get the energy. Winduhs wouldn't
let me install it from the CD drive, no matter which way I turned it.

I gotta tell ya this, though.. I received an email from the guy who was
going to send me the application to flash the BIOS, saying he needed to
ask me another question about my machine. I called his toll-free number
and he said he had something he could give me that would allow me to have
a TERABYTE sized hard drive.. for only $49.95.

You know, I actually think people fall for this and give the man the money.
Of course, I told him no thanks and went back to Google to find a free app.

Well, I had to argue the other day in a meeting. We want to get a
screen capture program for all the XP/2K workstations in my department -
about 900 machines. I have been using Gadwin
(http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/) on my Wintendo machines for years. It
works great, allows for multiple captue options and can be assigned a
hotkey. Very similar to Ksnapshot. In any case, the department has been
using some paid software to get similar functionality. The other day, I
get this purchase request for 1,000 licences at $30/each. Of course, I
denied it but then had to argue why they should use the superior free
version.

Grrr....

As soon as I get this mess straightened out I am installing Debian on my
step-daughter's machine. I should have done that to start with, damn
it! I kept thinking that one day she might have a job where she would
need to know Windows so I went ahead and did the durdy. <sigh>

There's always VMWare and CX Office...

Hey, have you seen the new Gamer's Linux?

No, but I'll be sure to check it out.

I did get some game DVD with a recent Linux Magazine. Lately, my son's
been playing Super Mario Bros on my Nintendo emulator.
