I'm not trying to say you can't handle it,
Wise choice ;-)
especially as I have
not yet had the pleasure of meeting you. *g* But after 15
years of visits to my b-i-l's place I thought I had a handle on
it. Once I actually made the move, I realized about halfway
thru my first winter that there was a lot more involved that I
had seen.
I do appreciate your concern. Amazingly enough, places like
Minnesota and Wisconsin get FAR worse winters than California...and
people there live through them :)
If I had the type of job where I had to commute anywhere, the snow
and cold would drive me nuts because of the hassle involved. But I
don't need to leave the house but every couple weeks.

Complete with a county-issued 'compassionate use' permit nailed
to the greenhouse door.
All hale Prop 215 for it hace grateniss!!!!1!
lol! I've heard in places the LE are challenging the validity of
that though. I don't understand how they *can*, only that they are.

Cross-bows (and deep holes in the ground) are our friends...
I don't have the upper body strength, nor the training, to use
a cross-bow correctly.
Cross-bows, as opposed to long bows, shouldn't need much
strength - you can get them with winches to draw the bow.
Possibly. My ex had quite a collection of different types of bows
and guns. He had quite a scar on his leg from when his cousin was
looking at the cross-bow and hadn't realized it was "cocked."
And silence has its advantages
True. They still take skill and practice to hit the intended
target. I've only used a regular bow, and that was a very long time
ago.
A hand gun, however, is a different matter :)
I'm better with a handgun than a long gun. I remember in boot
camp, after emptying the first magazine into the black, my DI
asking me 'exactly what did you do in civilian life'. LOL
LOL!
I went out with a group of friends last night and they were asking
about the move and such, and the subject got to guns. I said I'd
feel more comfortable with a handgun as the last time I used a
shotgun it knocked me flat on my ass. Then someone said "Yeah, but
how old were you?" I was 9. They aid that *may* have had something
to do with it, that they gun was likely bigger than I was :)
Last time to talked to my ex-fiance about this (having enough
land to bury the bodies) he pointed out that digging deep
holes was waaaay too much work. He suggested I leave 'um in
the brush. Coyotes have to eat too, ya know.
A possibility, but it can take up to several years to get rid
of all the evidence that way - look at the bodies that are
occaisonally found in the back country of lost hikers.
Good point.
