Switching the transmission from an automatic to a standard is a big
job. The driveshaft, bell housing and maybe the flywheel have to be
changed to not to mention you have to buy a clutch.

Yes, but you can get it done for you pretty cheap if you let em keep
the automatic trans...assuming it's in good condition.

That may cut the price somewhat. At the same time iirc, those
transmissions were quite common. I always did my own work so I never
looked at it from a customer's point of view.
