GRRRR!!!

Can it be considered a crime of passion if you kill a loved one for
breaking your computer??

The scenario:

Called up my wife on my break. She says "just the person I wanted to
talk to...the computer rebooted, so I need to know what to use for a
login." So I helped her login, then I proceeded to ask her "what do
you mean the computer rebooted?". I have a linux system, and generally
it doesn't need rebooting. She says "well, I was trying to work on
something and it locked up...nothing would work." (which, for just
about anything in Linux, if it locks, I can stop the process. So then
she says "I tried pushing buttons and nothing would work so I unplugged
it."

Not turned off. Not soft reboot. Pulled the $*&(@! cord out of the
wall!!!

For those who know anything about Linux (Kai, back me up on this...)
Linux does not particularly like to be turned off in such a
manner....it considers this to be very rude, and does its best to let
you know EXACTLY how it feels about this. Needless to say, over the
phone, I managed to walk her through (and she is an avid Windows user,
BTW) getting back to the GUI, where she can open Firefox to get her
precious hotmail (shudder). However, when she opens Firefox, she says
"it can't find Google". I immediately start hyperventilating, and walk
her through opening an Eterm window, type ifconfig, and ask her to read
me the IP address. As soon as I heard the first octet "172" I quickly
sat down to avoid falling over from fainting.

Okay. So now my net connection did not initialize the way it was
supposed to. I ask "during the boot process, did you see all 'green
OKs'?" To which she replied "well, there was some red exclamations at
some point, but I didn't pay attention to what it was."

At this point, I reminded my wife how much I love her, explained that I
needed to get back to work, and am now wondering how many hours I will
be up tonight (after my 8 hours here at work) repairing whatever damage
she did.

What has already been a long day is now going to be a long night.
Before anyone asks, yes, I had a separate account for her (non-root
priviledges, of course) but for some reason, hers isn't
working...mm-hmm. Well, apparently it's time for me to just set up a
completely separate box...with <cringe> Windows.

Sorry for the long rant, but I seem to have the most kindred spirits in
here...nobody else in my RL would have any clue what I'm whining about.
