Nah - just download it and then after unzipping it to a tar -xvf command. You can run it right from the commandline ./firefox

I have mine in /home/kai/downloads/firefox, which I am running on

occasion

to test things out. Typically I just use FF 1.0.7 and Opera. I do keep IE
6 around for laughs. (I did have to use it the other day to download

Visio

since the MSDN site wouldn't let me do it without - you guessed it -
another stupid ActiveX control.)

HTH!

I've read all of the replies and, other than some sites which won't properly run without using IE as a browser, I guess it'll be ok to install firefox. Mara mentioned the plugins though...I think I'll download one of two at a time and get used to them, etc before downloading all of them.
I'm getting done with IE anyway. I've also heard good things about Opera so I might get that too (after I've gotten used to FF).

if you make sites, get the webdev extension :)

First day it opened I went down there, was doing a few laps and pulled over and the manager comes over to me and says "Oi, mate! No professionals." I said I'm not a professional. He said "Well, you should be with moves like that you could be the best in Britain". I said, "No thanks I'm making shit loads from computers".
