It was crazy. Dude gets up out of nowhere...dude says he's outta there... Says the class is a joke... He said a lot of ***. Mainly how he didn't understand anything. And how the teacher doesn't explain anything . (There is some truth to that, however, he does help and he has taken the time to explain stuff to me, so it's not all him.)
The attrition rate in the java classes is pretty attrocious so meltdowns happen but never in class like that. In my first semester, there were 24 starting, 8 finished. One dude in there was taking it for the 3rd time. This class hasn't been as bad but there's still drops. To be honest, not really sure what to make of it all but I keep telling myself I don't have to make sense of it. It's not my deal, not my thing. Guess I'm still tripped out about it.
Has anything like this happened to you?
Holy crap. You taking my Java class? This happened last week. Last class before teh midterm, teacher ask "Any questions". Dude asks the class if anyone did the last assignment (we all had). and flips out that he isn't learning anything and its a stupid class, the instructor's fault, etc... Stormed out of the Midterm halfway through, too.
Granted, the lecturer's strong point is *not* lecturing, but... wow. Just wow.
Glad its not just my class.
I think the funniest thing I ever saw was this one d00d who went all spazzy like that and confronted the instructor (who apparently had enough of his bull***) and the student asks, "Why the hell did you give me an F!" and the instructor just looks at him and in a really calm voice says, "...because there wasn't anything lower." At which point he was pretty much laughed out of class.
Heh. In my class the prof had his wits about him. After the student had his tantrum, the lecturer reminded the class what his office hours are and (re)invited anyone who needed help to drop by. Then he suggested that the lesson before the midterm was probably not the best time to mention you were having difficulty.
Me, I made friends with the C++ guru who is throwing the curve. I listen to his in depth SWG stories, he clarifies concepts that the lecturer made unecesarrily complicated and helps me track down missing parentheses.
When I first started going to college I made the big mistake of show boating my knowledge, it's not that I hated helping people, it's just after awhile it was like that was ALL I was doing and a lot of people had trouble grasping the concept that even if the class was a breeze for me that didn't necesarily mean that I was loaded with free time. I never minded the people who actually wanted to learn, but a lot of them I found were just like...clingly (mostly girls...especialy the mediocre looking girls with low self esteem)...and they pretty much just wanted you to do all their work for them (which I sometimes did...for a price).
I know that from last semester. Most of the people I was happy to help out. That is to say most of the people had obviously made an effort to work it out for themselves.
I drew the line at the guy who emailed me the day before the final assignment was due and said (this is a direct quote) "... i was jus wondering if you could tell me step by step how 2 do lab 14... im kinda lost rite now..."
This was the first I had ever heard from the guy.
I told him to ask the instructor or the TA who actually get paid to explain that level of stuff.
